Electricity Savings

Electricity savings can be accomplished without discomfort.
Electricity cost is an important post on your budget .

What can you do to reduce those costs?

Here are many things you can do to save electricity.

Do not keep lights on if there is no need for it.

Put timers on outside lighting if there is no use to have them on all night.

Replace incandescent bulbs by compact fluorescent, they use about 25% of the energy of incandescent bulbs with the same lumen value .

Buy energy efficient appliances.

Use your air conditioner when absolutely necessary, most of the time, opening a few windows to create a draft will do the job.
Air conditioners are most useful when living in damp and hot climate where humidity is very high.

You have a baseboard electric heating system, replace your old line thermostats with the new electronic thermostats .
Your electricity savings will be up to 10% and you will be more comfortable.

Lower the temperature of your electric water heater , you do not need boiling water in there.

Buy a water saver shower head, beside saving water, your electricity savings will be important.

Let your dishwasher air dry dishes without heat, it will do the job just the same it will only take a little longer.

Dry your clothes outside if able instead of using your clothes drier.

Older house.

You bought an older house; maybe it was not built with the same insulating standards as required to day.

You can B> improve insulation quite bit by putting more insulation material in your roof.

Check your windows , they may waste heat.

After you are satisfied that your house is well insulated and does not waste too much energy, some other little thing will also let you with more electricity savings .

You are gone during the day , use your programmable electronic thermostats, let the inside temperature go down 2 or 3 degrees when you are away, program your thermostats to turn heat back on to normal values about half an hour before you expect to come back home.

Do the same for night heating, it does not need to be as warm when you sleep.

Keep the windows clear during the day; the sun will do part of the heating job.

Do the reverse at night; you will keep more heat in.
